"I began my hairdressing career as an apprentice in 1986 at Christopher Boyton in the UK, and was very fortunate to receive the best training and became a qualified hairdresser in 1989. I believe continual learning is the key to a successful career so training is an ongoing journey. I instil this everyday in my team at Mieka."

We were shortlisted again in 2006.
Christopher Boyton
was delighted with the news, saying:
"Practical learning
is the only way to learn the skills required for hairdressing.
Each salon is unique in as much as they have their own
ways of working. We have been training hairdressers
for 33 years. Each week we run our own training school
where our trainees can learn by doing. They work on
real people and are supported by our senior stylists
who supervise, encourage and correct any mistakes. Practical
learning is supported from the top down as our trainees
are our future."
Jamie Oliver, a supporter
of the Edge Employer Awards said:
"Edge is a brilliant
new charity that tries to promote what we do at Fifteen,
learning by doing. The Edge Employer Awards is a brilliant
competition and these organisations are providing fantastic
